Interchange Pass-Through Pricing
Chances are you're paying a 2.1% to 2.6% discount rate. With IPT you'll pay the actual cost from M/C and Visa which averages out to 1.95%. Remember, though, that there's a per transaction fee on top of that. And don't make the common mistake of focusing primarily on the discount rate. It's only half the story. A 2.1% rate can be worse than 2.5%! Why? Because it's the combination of discount rate and per transaction fee that determines most of your processing cost.
For example, which deal would you rather have, 2.1%+$0.50 or 2.5%+$0.10? Actually, the answer depends on yet another variable - your average ticket amount. Let's say your average order is $50.00. In the first scenario you'll pay ($1.05 + 0.50) for a total of $1.55. The second scenario will cost ($1.25 + 0.10) for a total of $1.35 -- a far better deal saving you an average of $0.20 per transaction. If you process 3,000 transactions per month, that's an extra $600 in your pocket (or $7,200 annually).
But look what happens when the average ticket is $100. You'll average $2.60 in both cases, so the deal's the same. Increase the average ticket to $200 and the result is $4.70 [$4.20 + 0.50] versus $5.10 [$5.00 + 0.10]. So now the first option is the better deal. It's important to keep these dependencies in mind - and to tailor the analysis to your own situation - when evaluating and comparing quotes for merchant services. Unless, of course, you have an interchange deal in which case everything passes through at cost.
Low Transaction Fees
Our business model couldn't be simpler. We'll quote a transaction fee that's as low as possible based upon the number of transactions you process in a year. Everything else is billed at true cost. That way, you don't have to think (let alone worry) about how much you're paying for that myriad of confusing transactions on your merchant statement and where, more importantly, you're paying far more than you should. All you need to think about now is one number - the per transaction fee. If you've ever tried, you know how difficult it is to compare quotes from multiple MSPs. Most use the inherent complexity in the system to mask the true cost of merchant processing, and they work hard to make it virtually impossible to compare apples to apples. With our Simplified approach you're assured of a low-cost deal without any hidden costs or unseen markups.
Reduced Rate for Auth-Only Transactions
Even if their billing systems support it, few if any MSPs will invoice at the lower, authorization-only fee when no deposit is made. Instead, they simply charge you the full fee and pocket the difference. Because abandoned auths happen so frequently in the card-not-present world (e.g. backorders that don't ship prior to the auth code's expiration date) the added costs quickly mount. Five hundred unsettled authorizations per month @ $0.30 would result in $150.00 per month in fees for which no revenue was generated! The same cost from us (if you're processing 50M transactions per year, for example) would cost only $45.00 (500 x $0.09), saving $1,260 annually in otherwise purely wasted fees. Even at our highest quoted rate of $0.12 per auth-only transaction, low-volume accounts, the savings are still a considerable $1,080 annually. These savings alone could be sufficient reason to move your business to Simplified Merchant Services.
We Rebate The Interchange Fee When You Issue Customer Credits
Every time you charge a customer's credit card you are paying a discount rate (say 2.2%) for that transaction. But what happens when you credit the customer after they return items to you for a refund? Most likely, your merchant processor keeps the original 2.2% for themselves. Why? Because they can, and it probably never occured to you that this rebate is not only available but appropriate. Why lose the sale and pay 2.2% on top of that!? It just doesn't make sense. But in nearly every case we've seen, the MSP keeps the change that you're entitled to. Not here. We rebate every penny of the interchange transaction when you issue a customer credit.
Service Fees at Vendor Cost
Every service we provide is priced at dead cost. Chargebacks are $8.00. A voice authorization is $2.00 with AVS ($0.55 without). Monthly statements cost $9.00. Compare these prices to what you're currently paying. I'll bet they're a lot less.

1Interchange rates are the lowest discount rates available to merchants of any size. As of 6/1/05, rates for VISA were CPS Retail Credit {1.54% + $0.10} and Card-Not-Present Credit {1.85% + $0.10}, all transactions are plus 0.0925% VISA assessments. M/C corresponding rates are Merit 3 Credit {1.63% + $0.10} and Merit 1 {1.95% + $0.10} plus M/C assessments of 0.095%. In plain English, the first rate is for retail/POS/card-swiped transactions. The second rate is for MOTO/card-not-present mail order and web-based transactions. Merchants receiving interchange rates also pay a small assessment of less than one-tenth of one percent of their transaction volume. Upshot: these are the same rates that the largest direct marketers like LL Bean, Sharper Image and Amazon.com receive. The only variable is the additional "per transaction" fee which will range from as little as $0.10 to $0.35 or more depending upon the number of transactions performed per year.
2Your transaction fee will be determined primarily by the number of transactions you process per year (unless your average sale amount is very high and your transaction volume is relatively low - in which case a different approach to structuring the optimal rate plan for your business may be warranted).
To receive an interchange-only quote just tell us roughly how many transactions you process annually and your approximate total annual charge card deposits (M/C and Visa only!). If you're not sure, please fax a copy of a recent monthly merchant statement or just give us a call. Whichever you prefer.
